Phoenix, the city that continues to attract people

Phoenix, from its humble beginnings in the 1860s and 1870s, continues to grow and attract more and more people to its fold. It has a booming tourism industry, thanks to the availability of affordable air conditioning and transportation facilities, which continues to grow from strength to strength.

Phoenix is the city which went into ruins around 700 AD before being inhabited again. Just as the phoenix rose from ashes, Phoenix, Arizona rose from ruins to become a bustling and a booming City in the Southwest of the United States. The city continues to grow attracting more and more settlers. It has many tourist attractions. A unique ecosystem, considered to be the second most diverse system of its kind in the world, surrounds Phoenix. The desert and its influence on its inhabitants of the past and present can be learnt from a trip there.

Downtown Phoenix can be visited on foot and it has a number of attractions to offer. The Heritage Square and the historic Teeter House, the Phoenix Museum of History and St. Mary’s Basilica are some of the important places to see. A show in the Orpheum Theater or the Herberger Theater Center or in the Symphony Hall is worth the visit. Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa: A brief History

Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa is a major attraction of Phoenix and is popularly known as “The Jewel of the Desert”. The hotel was opened in 1929 and since then it has maintained its excellent service. The design for the hotel was originally made by Frank Lloyd Wright. In 1930 William Wrigley, Jr who was one of the investor in the hotel became the sole owner for Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa. Useful resource: Phoenix hotels

Wrigley owned the property for 44 years. In 1973 the Biltmore was sold to Talley Industries. Talley Industries closed the hotel for renovations and in record 82 days a new look of the Biltmore was created. A 90 room paradise wing was opened and a 120 room valley wing with 39,000-square-foot Conference Center. The major renovation task continued from 1973 to 1987.
In January 1998, 20,000 square foot Arizona Biltmore Spa was opened which hosted spa, fitness center and beauty salon. A large swimming pool was also created with 734 guest rooms which makes it the largest resort in Arizona.

During all this renovation process one point was kept in mind and i.e to preserve the architectural integrity of the place.
